welcome to season 7 of FYI this season instead of tackling topics we'll discover the most common verbs in the English language do you walk the walk We'll Walk This Way we'll discover that the verb walk is a cakewalk on this week's episode of FYI welcome to for your info English you got[Music][Applause][Music] it hello hello hello fyers welcome to another exciting edition of FYI today we are going to take a look at the verb walk and just like talk that L is there just to confuse you so walk talk and we've looked at this before to walk the walk and to talk the talk if you talk the talk means you talk a lot if you walk the walk it means you back up your words with actions in English we have another idiomatic expression jot this one down actions speak louder than words that means I'm not so much listening to what you're saying as to watching what you're doing think about it with kids my daughter's listening to what I say but she's also watching me she's watching every action I do right that's what they are they're little parrots and I want you to be parrots Amigos I want you to repeat to Parable as you do every week so remember don't just listen to this you can listen to it okay if you can't do you know if you can only listen to it because you're you know whatever you're in a car with people and you're listening on your headphones I get it but whenever possible please vocalize and this way I'm telling you at the end of this season which we're nearing the end of season 7 you should be more comfortable with the most common verbs you should be comfortable with some of the most common structures as well so that Applause is for all of you who are doing the work and you're not just talking the talk I want to learn English you're walking the walk let's take a look at the intro where I use the Expression I said do you walk the walk well Walk This Way talk this way she told me to Walk This Way AOS Smith will take a look at this verb in pop culture as we always do in the bonus episode in the bonus episode we look at phrasal verbs we look at idiomatic expressions we look at it in pop culture that's music and movies and then at the end I put you folks to the test so we'll see if you're really walking the walk and then I said well we'll discover that it's a cakewalk if something is a cakewalk it means it's really easy you say banido in Spanish so you have a couple options you have a walk in the park a piece of cake and a cakewalk it's kind of a mix of the two or a breeze English is a breeze with you Alberto so these are four different ways to say something is extremely easy and I promise we're going to make it as easy as possible in today's episode I always try and demystify all these verbs with all these meanings so as I say always not so that you re that that you memorize them but that you recognize them so the next time somebody says you know he walked out on me well with a little bit of you know context and you know maybe being exposed to the word you might know it and then if you say it aloud who knows you might even use it and that is our end game that's our final goal here so let's take a look at the verb it's walked Walked right it ends with a T sound remember regular verbs you've got the ending that's a D sound you've got the ending that's a t sound and you've got the Ed D all right an example of each I walked to the park I walked remember that t we put it together with the next word right I walked it and that's an interesting one in Spanish it's not and it's and it's really irregular in Spanish well in English the most important part is we got to pronounce that t when it's in the second or the third column right the same with walk I walked I talked the other column is I agreed right she agreed that we would do it and the other one is wanted needed SOS we've looked at this many times in class because uh regular verbs are easy it's add an ed it's the pronunciation and how we put them together with the following words that's what really really counts there so walked Walked okay did you walk it yeah I walked it did you say it right did you say walked it because the T goes with the it right I walked it I walked it and that L just like in talk it's not W it's not tal it's walk talk or half I've heard so many people a million times say half it's half so make a note you know write it write down those words right now you've got a PDF if you're you're in my community and jot it down and cross out the L this way you're visualizing those words in your head without the L okay now we've got the conjugation out of the way the pronunciation let's take a look at some meanings and some examples the first one to move on foot at a moderate Pace it's not run right this is that would be picking up the pace to pick up the paceo so to move on foot at a moderate no moderate moderate said the Al he moderates a group on weekends but in this case it's the adjective so it's moderate okay and uh as always some examples here's where I need you guys to repeat after me to Parrot me okay I like I like to walk in the park every morning I like to ask me do you like to do you like to walk in the park every morning yeah walking in the park is a walk in the park all right another example she walked to school because the weather was nice she say it with me she walked to school right she walked to school she walked to one sound she walked to school because the weather was nice okay ask me and did she walk to school did she did she walk to school yeah well why why did she why did she walk to school well she walked to school cuz the weather was nice right two different ways to ask about the weather what's the weather like or how's the weather look how's the weather like no it's what's the weather like or how's the weather seen like as you like we're always playing with words here the next usage to lead or accompany someone on foot so let's look at some examples I will I'll walk you home after the party is to walk somebody I'll walk you there oh are you going I I'm I'm going there I'll walk you there so this is a really good one I know you know walk but it's too so I'll walk you home not you yeah I'll walk you home after the party ask me will you did I say you no will you it sounds weird will you walk me home will you walk me home after the party say it will you walk me home after the party yeah de make know no I won't walk you home after the party I won't Walk You Home I'm sorry I can't the next one the teacher walked the children across the street the teacher walked the children across the street ask me turn it into a question I know you can let's say the teacher is a she but teacher he she it them they right so she walked the children across the street did she did she walk the children across the street yeah she walked the children across the street the next one with pets namely dogs I guess some people walk iguanas yeah I remember in New York City once I saw somebody walking and iguana and iguana and I'm going to tell you something I want to throw up Iana i w i w okay really bad joke I wna iguana do you wna iguana hey again what are we doing making corny jokes or just playing with the sounds of the words let's take a look at walking the dog you say the same thing he walks his dog he walks his dog no he he walks his dog every afternoon ask me does he does he does he walk his dog does he walk his dog every afternoon no he doesn't walk his dog every afternoon he walks his dog every other afternoon every other G we say the next one I saw her walking her two puppies in the neighborhood for all you fans of pooches a pooch is another way of saying a dog by the way there's an FYI episode on dogs if you haven't heard it so I saw her m malach not her I saw her walking her two puppies in the neighborhood ask me did you did you or did you did you see her walking her did you see her walking her two puppies in the neighborhood yeah I saw her walking her two puppies in the neighborhood not poopies she's like oh poopies I'm like poopies is kakas puppies isos and pooches is would be maybe a good translation it's a cute way of calling them right like Kitty hey Kitty hey Pooch those are loving ways of calling our pets and how do you say you've got to pet your pets mascot you'll always remember it the next one to travel or move in a specific manner okay some examples they walked through the forest they walked remember that through is from start to finish they walked through the forest until they found a clearing a clearing is an open area without any trees we call it a clearing so they walked through the forest or the woods until they found a clearing ask me did they did they walk through the forest until they found a clearing yeah they were lost so they walked through the forest until they found a clearing the next one we walked down the street walk down the street over here we walked down the street to find a good Cafe we walked down the street to find a good Cafe can you turn it into a question did you did you and theist did you walk down the street to find a good Cafe yeah and we came across an awesome f you remember this word a if you associate it you'll remember the word in English another usage to take part in an event right to participate in a procession a protest or something like that let's take a look at it they walked in the protest for climate action okay no clim see not climate they walked in the protest for climate action ask me did they did they walk in the protest for climate action yeah they walked in it they walked in it we all walked to in the charity event last weekend charity is a way of saying um a charity right a charity event so we all walked in the charity event last weekend to walk in something makes sense because you're a part of a group you're in it okay and uh to be in a particular state or position by moving on foot that's our next usage and here we're going to add some prepositions although we're going to look at all the phrasal verbs and all the idiomatic expression in the bonus episode and by the way if you guys are part of my community then you already know this there's a lot access to classes with me I mean the let's put it this way the possibilities are endless it all depends on you so join us folks it's patreon.com SL Alberto Alonso so we were looking at being in a particular state or position by moving on foot okay so he walked away from the argument to avoid a fight to walk away Mak sense now if we use the idiomatic expression it's to turn the other cheek right in a fight if you don't want to fight you turn the other cheek you walk away all right so he walked away walked away away he walked away from the argument argue no argument argument to avoid a fight ask me did he did he walk away from the argument to avoid a fight yeah he walked away from the argument to avoid a fight he turned the other cheek all right great idiomatic expression the next example she just walked out without saying goodbye again I want you to focus on that t it goes without she just walked out walked out she walked out so she just walked out without saying goodbye ask me did she did she just walk out without saying goodbye yeah she walked out seen this she always walks out without saying goodbye ask me does she always does she always walk out without saying goodbye yeah she's quite rude all right and we've also got a usage in baseball and if you remember there's an FYI episode on baseball you know baseball the allamerican game so logically we have a lot of idiomatic Expressions that have to do with this All-American sport check out the episode because you will learn some of the most common business Expressions ever uh we've got a a way in the United States of always linking business and sports so in baseball when you walk in baseball you've got a couple options here so you can you can strike out again there are expressions that are going to come right in you know that have nothing to do with baseball that are used every day but they come from baseball you know the usage I mean so um to walk to strike out means the pitcher through three pitches that you swung at okay now then you didn't hit them obviously okay or it was a perfect pitch and you didn't swing I don't want to get into the rules but you can strike out right and that means you don't go on base that means you go back to The Dugout right and then you can walk or you can get a hit okay so you can strike out you can get a walk or you can get a hit if you get a hit then you got to run to the bases if you get a walk that means you have received four really bad pitches okay the strike zone so what happens you walk you walk to first space so you can get three strikes and you sit down if you get four balls before you get three strikes balls okay strike strike ball is come on it's not fair right and an automatic walk is if the ball hits the batter so you can there's two ways to walk in baseball number one the ball hits you you take the base right away you walk to first okay and number two as I said four balls so those are uh that's that's a walk in baseball right the pitcher accidentally walked three batters in a rowo we want a pitcher not a belly itcher a pitcher a belly we want a pitcher not a belly itcher these are these very very native things that I love learning in Spanish all right let's take a look at some examples in different tenses and then we'll take a look at some synonyms and anonyms before we wrap up but remember if you're not coming to the bonus EP episode you are missing out I would definitely join us in the bonus episode and again if you want a free sample let me know contact me I can send you a couple bonus episodes or some PDFs to take a look because I really think you're going to love it really especially if you love learning with me if you love the way I conduct my classes all right let's look at it in the present I walk to work every day we looked at this example it's a very common one you can change work to my daughter's school to whatever right it's super I walk to not to I walk to work every day okay ask me do you walk to work every day do you do you walk to work every day yeah I walk to work every day my sister walks to work every day my sister walks to work every day ask me does your sister does she does she walk to work every day no she walks to worko every other day did you remember it if not jot it down let's take a look at it in the past tense she walked around the city during her vacation perfect I mean that's a normal sentence you would say oh we walked around Rome we roamed around Rome to roome De ulad we looked at that in our episode on the room ran Empire Hallelujah the Holy Roman Empire hallelujah hallelujah so she walked arounded around so it's walk around doig she walked around the city during her vacation ask me did she walk around the city during her vacation did she did she walk around the city during her vacation yeah she always walks around the city during her vacations she loves to roam around she loves to wander all right and the future tomorrow we will talk to the market no we will talk didn't make any sense we will walk I misread it tomorrow we will we will we will we will rock you but that's it the rest of it it's wheel so tomorrow we'll walk walk to the market instead of driving tomorrow we'll walk to the market instead of driving ask me will you walk to the market instead of driving no inste inste it's instead of instead of cross it out in your head it's instead of it's like listen it goes with or you know waight it goes with four you know there's certain things we just need to know they go together look goes with at obviously there are many other options but in general it's got to go with a preposition and that's one of the ones it generally goes with so will you walk to the market instead of driving yeah will will we'll walk to the market after uh instead of driving all right instead of Sol let's take a look at some synonyms with the word walk and you'll have to excuse me today if you notice I'm a little bit stuffed up but I wanted to do the recording anyway because I'm not the kind of guy who likes to sit around and and feel sorry for himself oh it's not my style so I prefer to be distracted giving you a class but you'll have to bear with me because well it's a little bit I'm struggling just a little bit no l but we will'll get through it believe me we'll get through it because I didn't come here today to talk the talk I came here to walk the walk regardless regardless of if I'm under the weather we quote Freddy Mercury The Show Must Go On And it must folks you got to keep learning English rain or shine some synonyms to stroll I love this one because while a stroll is what you bring a baby around in so it makes sense and a stroll tells me it's at a leisurely Pace okay we're strolling in the stroller the British call it a pram yes the next word wander we already looked at that one we just looked at it a moment ago wand not to be confused with Wonder I wonder if he likes to wander I wonder I wonder if he likes to wander don't mix him up okay the next one Ro you know roome like roaming the next one to take out to take something out in this case we're talking about the dog I'm going to take the dog out I'm gonna walk the dog and the last one to meander and to meander is to kind of take a walk without any purpose just it reminds me of like a lazy river you Meander you just move slowly at a really nice Pace no rush no rush at all now some antonyms for walk let's take a look at some antonyms to stand well you're not walking you're standing remember it's an irregular verb stand stood stood all right the next one sit you're not walking you're sitting also an irregular verb you know what every day I sit yesterday I sat lately I've sat good job the next one is to lie down to lie down down the next one is to freeze freeze that's what a police officer would say so that's the opposite of walking in fact in my country if you hear the word freeze you better freeze trust me don't argue just freeze another way to say that is halt I think you say Alto halt or freeze those are important words if a police officer says them to you in my country all right Amigos I hope you learn some useful English with us and I hope you'll join us in the bonus episode of this week's FYI[Applause][Music][Applause][Music]
