welcome to season 8 of FYI this season instead of tackling topics we'll discover the most common verbs in the English language don't draw any conclusions I will break down draw by drawing on my past experience on this week's episode of FYI welcome to for your info English you got it you got it hello hello hello FYI I'm so glad this show has drawn your attention hey there we go using the verb already to draw your attention to attract right we talk about Michael Jordan back in the day he could really draw a crowd right or he could draw a crowd he could attract a crowd so thank you for coming today FYI and in the intro we saw some other incarnations of this verb to draw I said don't draw any conclusions and in this case it's to reach a conclusion right he drew many conclusions we'll take a look at the conjugation in just a moment so don't draw any conclusions I will break down great verb to know to break down as desad to break into small pieces so it's easier to understand we also talk about breaking down like a bill una if you itemize it k in so you're breaking it down you're itemizing it and I said um I will break down draw the verb to draw by drawing on right recurring resorting to we would say not recurring resorting to my past experience right I'm going to take inspiration from my past experience so as you can see as with all the essential verbs we've been looking at in this season and the season before these are really really rich words and they're not just verbs because a draw did you say Noe a a drawing a draw and what about a drawer drawer not draw what's a drawer well it could be an illustrator but if you're at your house you're probably talking about gon right it's in the top drawer and you want to know another funny meaning my drawers MOS so there's one that'll help you remember it right I left my drawers in the drawers in what's the word Ines kones which is very similar to another word coonies as we say so that I always I try and avoid the word kones because I would say one out of four times I end up saying konis so anyhow drawers drawers careful with the pronunciation so as we've already seen we haven't even really started the episode and we've seen that it's so rich so let's take a look at how it's conjugated you guys do it every dayos so every day I drew conclusions yesterday yesterday I drew conclusions so every day I draw yesterday I drew conclusions and lately lately I've drawn conclusions and just remember if you know how to conjugate draw drew drawn then you also know how to conjugate withdraw Sak I have to withdraw some money from the bank yesterday I yesterday I withdrew money from the bank and lately he lately he's withdrawn he has he's withdrawn money from the ATM or the cash machine all right so just remember that when a verb is inside another one you just have to know how to conjugate the original verb forget forgot forgotten get got gotten see uh come came come become became become and there are many like that foresee every day I foresee things yesterday yes yesterday I foresaw things and lately lately he's or she's forseen things all right are you following along remember how important it is for you to not just listen to this this is not a podcast like your typical podcast this is a podcast where I want you to be proactive I want you to repeat the different structures and I want you to get more and more comfortable with not just Listening to English and exposing yourself to English but also with speaking using our essential verbs and our most common structures so let's take a look at this over here the first meaning to create a picture or image image image Bridge there's an image of the bridge right so to create a picture or image with a pencil or a pen No pencil pencil pencil or a pen right a pencil is LA and a pen isigo as you say so uh to make a picture design by making by marking on a surface surface often with a pencil pen or similar tool let's take a look at some examples she loves to draw landscapes with charcoal okay charcoal is carbon you know these charcoal it's black right and you can do it you can take a piece off the barbecue and you can do it right so she loves to draw landscapes she loves to she loves to or she loves to she loves to draw landscapes with charcoal ask me does she does she love to draw landscapes with charcoal oh yeah she loves to draw landscapes with charcoal the next one commonly used when talking about art or sketching okay oh well this is the usage again so but you can put that with anything she loves to draw landscap Apes with a pencil with a pen the only thing is if we use a paintbrush then it's not drawing it's painting right and we'll look at some synonyms like all these other ways of saying draw as well all right the next one to attract or pull towards something we already said Michael Jordan always drew a crowd right to draw a crowd to attract people okay example the festival draws a large crowd every year the festival draws a large crowd every year ask me does it you don't have to say the festival does it does it draw a large crowd every year well no not really last year it didn't draw a large crowd Why didn't it Why didn't it draw a large crowd okay this way we're not just looking at the verb and the usage of the verb but we're looking at all different tenses very common Why didn't it it's a very important structure to know why didn't he Why didn't it right all right the next one is to extract or take out now this is interesting because we withdraw money but we don't draw money we withdraw it but if you're a cowboy and you're in a duel I think you say you draw your weapon okay gentlemen draw your weapons he said you get it draw your weapons to draw your weapons so obviously when there are double triple quadruple meanings you'll see that there are always jokes or puns around it okay so to extract or take out such as liquid or information okay example he drew water from from the well he drew water from the well ask me did he did he draw water from the well yeah he always draws water from the well ask me does he no does he does he always draw water from the well how would you say he hasn't drawn water from the well lately why hasn't he drawn water from the well recently why hasn't he again draw is very important but these structures are just as important okay let's look at another example the interviewer so the interviewer is the person asking the questions the interviewee is the person who's answering the questions and the same thing happens at work the employee is the one doing the work the employer is the one telling you to do the work right so there's always one the r is the leader and the E is well know uh grin and Barrett a and we say grin is and right I prefer the Spanish version a iaga I think it's absolutely brilliant so the interviewer tried to draw more information from the candidate we don't say candidate we say candidate right so the interviewer tried to tried to not tried to the interviewer tried to draw more information from the candidate ask me did the interviewer did he did she did she try to draw more information from the candidate yeah she always tries to draw more information from the candidates that she interviews yeah okay why didn't she try to draw more information from the candidates why didn't she all right also we talk about drawing blood the doctor had to draw blood and do some tests okay so to extract something but not money that's withdraw all right the next one to move or pull something slowly it reminds me back in the day the hor drawn carriage Carriage horse a hor drawn carriage it's drawn it's pulled slowly usually by something let's look at an example he drew the curtains to let in some sunlight could you please draw the curtains he drew the curtains to let in some sunlight ask me did he did he draw the curtains did he draw the curtains to let in some sunlight yeah he never draws the curtains to let in some sunlight he's a vampire he loves the dark it's weird I can't believe he drew the curtains okay to draw to open slowly okay also with a sword we said with weapons draw your sword draw your weapon so you're seeing it's take out it's pull slowly it's attract and theu of course the next one the next usage of this verb is to conclude or infer okay as we just said drawing a conclusion So based on the evidence the science the scientist excuse me drew a conclusion about the experiment ask me so I'll give it to you again the scientist drew a conclusion about the experiment okay did he or did she draw a conclusion about the experiment yeah well what conclusion did she draw well she drew the conclusion that if we use too much acid in the mix right again play with it you can always have your own conversations now normally if you talk to yourself they say you're crazy right I say you're learning a language all right so we looked at that one as I said in the intro we also have to get or receive okay to get or or receive and uh this this could be used for attention this could also be used for a reaction let's take a look the speech Drew Applause from the audience s same kind of thing no right so the speech Drew Applause from the audience Applause audience careful with the pronunciation ask me did the speech did you say s speech it's not s speech it's speech right so did the speech draw Applause from the audience Oh Yeah the speech Drew Applause from the audience do he make a know nope sorry Alberto the speech didn't draw Applause from the audience Why didn't it Why didn't it Why didn't it right Why didn't it draw Applause from the audience well it was kind of a long speech it was long winded it's long winded all right the next one is to pick or select by random selection okay so this reminds me of another usage of a drawing we're having a drawing at the school tomorrow we're going to raise funds so you draw okay I'm gonna draw let's see if I draw your name and it's called a drawing contexto we know which one we're talking about so they drew straws to decide who would go first and this is a game I don't know if you do this one in Spanish uh to draw you put them in your hand the one who draws the shortest straw loses right do you have that game in Spanish to draw straws it's called let's draw straws we need to draw straws to see who's going to go first okay so they drew straws to decide who would go first ask me did they did they draw straws to decide who would go first no they didn't draw straws they didn't draw straws what's the word now in Spanish see when your brain Works in two languages Soro it takes time to go back and forth it's not that I don't know the words my brain was just in English and now it's got to go back to Spanish so uh but there will be but there will be a drawing ask me will there be will there be a drawing next week in the office or are we just going to draw straws like last time well I hope they don't draw my name because I don't want to go first now if they're giving something away I hope they draw my name first all right sakar okay the next one is to end a game with an equal score we already looked at this one they drew another way to say it they tied okay they they tied or they drew and that means that they were they they got the same score right the scoreboard was 0 0 1-1 impat you say you know this one anybody who knows about tennis you have a tie break right was a tie is a draw so to finish or end with equal points the match ended in a draw I hate it when that happens by the way the match ended in a draw ask me did it the match did it end in a draw yeah it ended in a draw it didn't end in a draw Why didn't it Why didn't it end in a draw well because the player scored the striker scored Marco at the last minute at the buzzer ispr right at the buzzer at the last minute the next usage is to move closer or approach okay so SAA I think would be a good one as the summer draws closer right to draw closer so to move closer or approach let's look at the example as winter draws near I don't know my Seasons okay as winter draws near the days get shorter ask me do the days get shorter do they do the days get shorter as winter draws near yeah the days definitely get shorter as winter draws near or draws closer all right and the last usage is to earn money from a fund same thing right who is funding the project okay so to earn money from a fund or allowance and allowance is remember when you were kids and you would do some chores around the house and your parents would give you a little money that's an allowance okay here's 50 cents here's a Euro here's whatever it was it's this money that you give kids to teach them responsibility okay also a salary you can use it as well so he draws a monthly salary from his job he draws okay Ghana he no if you think about it all kind of makes sense right he draws a monthly salary from his job ask me does he does he draw does he draw a monthly salary from his job oh yeah Ghana or um he draws a six figure salary so it's a very native way of saying it totally totally native way of saying it all right he draws a sixf fig salary from his job oh must be nice all right Amigos well we're going to move move on to our synonyms and antonyms and their usage as well just to make sure you're familiar with them and don't forget in the bonus work all right some synonyms for draw to tie we already looked at it they tied tie hey we should do an episode on the verb tie that's a really rich verb too to tie down to tie up right if I say I'm all tied up next weekend I'm all tied up so I think we'll take a look at the verb to tie in the future the next one's sketch now to sketch is it's not really drawing it's kind of light drawing what's the word in Spanish yeah sounds a lot like so to sketch it's a regular verb and and it's in the column the T column I sketch did you sketch it yes I sketched it I sketched it so sketch it I sketched it good I'm glad you sketched it the next one's a take out Sak right he took out his weapon he took out we looked at the verb to take in one of our early episodes right he drew his weapon so it's take took taken we already looked that to attract it's a regular verb it ends in the D column did you attract it yeah I attracted it right pick did you pick it yes I picked it great job if you're following along and some antonyms for draw to insert did you insert it insert coin right you say in Spanish did you insert it yes I inserted it joking sorry my mind is in the gutter all right uh did you erase it yes I erased it did you erase it yeah I erased it all right then we've got to win and lose win one one lose lost lost okay be careful you don't mix it up with loose loose hey if it helps dessert give me another helping another serving the next one to turn off well to attract to turn on no you turn oh it turns me on Well turns me off okay so did it turn you off yeah it turned me off turned me off and another way to say which is also very common to to repulse okay does he repulse you yes he repulses me all right Amigos I I hope you learned a lot I hope that you were practicing with us aloud and I hope you'll join us in the bonus episode of this week's FY I[Music][Applause][Music]
